Mental Health

 

What does it mean to be mentally healthy? 

Being mentally healthy means to be emotionally psychologically and socially doing well. It is our ability to make better choices, to handle stress and to have healthy social involvement. 

Importance of good mental health

We are only click away from the outside world and we need to keep our behaviour unaffected of negative environment so we should be aware about our mental health. 

In the following ways a good mental health contributes to us:-

A. Our physical health depend upon our mental health. Stress and other mental issues leads to the issues related to heart in some cases the stress become the reason behind the cardiac arrest. 
B. A mentally healthy person can focus better on his work and goals, which enhances his productivity. 
C. To be well socially connected and to contribute positively in society. 
D. To stay motivated and to increase our self-esteem. 

Most common mental health conditions

1. Depression

Depression is a mood disorder and a loss of interest in activities around you in day to day life. 

Symptoms:-

# Feeling sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or           hopelessness
# Angry outburst or frustration even at small matters
# Sleep disturbance
# Tiredness and lack of energy
# Suicidal thoughts
# Feeling of worthlessness or guilt, etc. 

2. Anxiety Disorder

A mental health disorder characterised by feelings of worry, anxiety or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities.

Symptoms:-

# Feeling nervous, restless or tense
# Increased heart rate
# Sweating
# Trembling
# Feeling weak or tired
# Having difficulty controlling worry, etc. 

3. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

A disorder characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a  terrifying event. 

Symptoms:-

# Reliving:- Flashbacks, hallucinations and nightmares. 
# Avoiding:- Avoiding people, place, thoughts or situation that may remind them of trauma. 
# Increased arousal:- Excessive emotions such as affection, hate, irritability, outburst of anger, etc. 

4. Bipolar Disorder

A disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depression lows to manic highs. 

Symptoms:-

# Feeling sad, hopeless or irritable most of the time
#Lacking energy
# Difficulty in concentrating and remembering things
# Loss of interest in everyday life. 
# feeling of guilt and despair
# Self doubt, etc. 

Things we need to cope up with Mental Health issues

1. Being socially active which helps to build a sense of belonging and provide emotional support and allow you to support others. 

2. Being physically active:- It helps you in setting and achieving goals which gives you sense of rising self esteem. 

3. Learning new skills:-
a. Gives you self confidence
b. Build sense of purposeful
c. Helps you connect with others. 

4. Pay attention to the present:-
a. Meditation helps you to live in the present moment. 
b. Reduced stress level as you can focus more on your goals. 

5. Connect with nature
a. Nature provides you inner peace. 
b. It helps in forgetting your problems and in removing guilt from you.
