Manage Time in a Better Way | List of Most Important Steps for Managing Time Effectively

What if you get Rs 86,400 every morning and are asked to spend as much as you like till the end of the day. What would you do? Obviously, make full use of all money.

But sadly, most of us don’t realize that this is what we must do with our time. Every day has 86400 seconds that we can completely use instead of wasting.

If you want to be successful, then the most important thing you should focus on is ‘Time Management. But the question that arises here is: How can we manage time effectively?

Here are the five simple steps which you can follow to manage time effectively.

Steps for better Time Management

1. Proper Scheduling:- It is the primary step to be followed for better time management. All you need to do is just fix your working time, sleeping time, and entertainment time, and make a rough timetable that shows how your day should roughly look like.

2. Pre-Planning of the Day:- According to your timetable, try to pre-plan your day before sleeping or after waking up in the morning.

Your pre-planning should include ‘What to do’ and ‘When to do’.

3. Categorization:- All the things that you do during the day can be divided into categories on the basis of urgency and importance. The four categories thus derived would be:

Urgent and important: Jobs which are really close to deadlines like submissions of projects, test preparations - you have no choice but to do these important things.

Urgent but not important: Any task that you have to do, though not important, like answering a doorbell.

Not urgent but important: Tasks that are to be done by some distant deadline, like doing a project by the end of vacations.

Neither urgent nor important: Watching TV, computer games, chatting on the phone, and any other task that you tend to do just for time pass.

The essence of time management lies in devoting maximum time to the ‘not urgent’ but ‘important’ category, of course. after urgent and important tasks are handled. The person should remember to allocate time last to the ‘neither urgent nor important’ category. Sounds simple, doesn't it?

4. Note & Check:- Write all those things on a paper that you are going to do in the form of a checklist. Now, tick the things which are completed as a symbol of completion.

This will not only tell you what you have to do but will also provide you with a feeling of satisfaction.

5. Set Deadlines:- Settings deadlines help you to minimize time waste. You should set a deadline for each particular work.

Aren’t these steps easy?

Apart from this, there are some more things that should be taken care of, for a good outcome:-

· Productivity is all about energy, focus, and time management. So, along with time management, try to improve your energy and focus also.

· Procrastination is the enemy of success. Never procrastinate on your important work.

· According to the Pareto principle, 80 % of the results depend on your 20 % of the activities. So try to invest more time in those activities which give you more results.

· Do take care of yourself. Have complete sleep and a proper diet.

These small things are very beneficial for better time management.
